Dortmund Lose Grip Of Bundesliga As Bayern Munich Power Their Way Into First Place
After a stellar start to the season by Dortmund which saw them sit at the top of the Bundesliga standings clear of the pre-season favourites, Bayern Munich who languished in 6th place, 9 points behind the leaders following a poor start to their season which ensured that Dortmund had a comfortable lead at the top of the log.
The 28th Bundesliga match day started with Dortmund in first place and Bayern Munich hot on their heels only 2 points behind the leaders. All that changed at fulltime as Bayern hammered their way past Dortmund with a resounding 5-0 victory, a match which saw former Dortmund players Matt Hummels and Robert Lewandowski score as the latter scored twice to become the first non-German player to score 200 goals in the history of the Bundesliga with his first of the night being a spectacular effort. Dortmund have lacked the belief at times with bizarre losses and dropping points in a season where the dominant force haven’t been at their best, they have lacked the mental strength to push through the remaining 6 fixtures which could have seen them stroll to the title.
They play their next fixture against Mainz 05 at the Signal Igunda park with the only difference being that they are now in the position of chasing the league leaders and hoping Bayern Munich drop crucial points to have any chance of reclaiming the Bundesliga title they last lifted under current Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp in the 2011/2012 season.
